Kendra Schwabel A native of Woodstock, New York, my art has been my journey for the past 30 years. With a degree in history, I was always attracted to nostalgic old buildings and quaint village scenes for my inspiration. However, a visit to Paris in 2000 set me in a new direction with my work, focusing on old world European scenes, both representational and impressionistic. In addition to my paintings, I work with mixed media to produce textured abstract collage art. My work has received several awards and is exhibited in galleries and private collections around the United States, Europe and Asia.
My artwork can be both representational and abstract, but is always bold and rich in color and design. Working with a deep, earthy color palette, my paintings capture the majestic warmth of the Tuscan countryside or the quaint nostalgia of a Minnesota storefront. I look for the everyday places that give us our sense of humanity, and then I try to capture something that speaks to people about their own experience. In my collage art, my emphasis is on a dynamic blend of texture and color that is both inviting and inspiring. The creative process is ever soulful, always changing and inspirational.
